Chapter 50 Committees
What Are Our Committees?
Chapter 50 Committees are made up of volunteers who are dedicated individuals to serve a one-year term.
Each Committee is responsible for specific missions as outlined in our Constitution and Bylaws, ensuring we serve our veterans effectively and with purpose.

Senior Vice Commander is the chairperson of the Membership Committee.
Goal: Actively recruit eligible new members and work on renewals of delinquent members

Prepare an annual budget reflecting anticipated and projected expenditures. The budget shall not provide for expenditures in excess of the estimated income for the fiscal year Involved.
Submit a proposed budget to the Chapter for approval at the first scheduled meeting of the fiscal year.
Expenditures contained In the approved Budget may be paid as necessary without further action from the body.
Emergency expenses up to $500.00 may be approved by the Executive Committee. All emergency expenditures must be explained at the next regularly scheduled General Business Meeting

Be composed of at least three (3) Members of the Chapter, excluding the Commander, Senior Vice Commander, Treasurer, Adjutant and Budget & Finance Committee Chairperson.
Conduct an annual audit of the financial records of the Treasurer in accordance with the Department of Virginia and the National Constitution and Bylaw

Ensure proper maintenance of the chapter home and surrounding grounds.
Maintain a schedule of other organizations or individuals approved to use the chapter home. The committee shall also investigate if any group or individual(s) requesting to use the Chapter home and make a recommendation to the Chapter for approval or disapproval.
Obtain multiple estimates for any repairs or services required to maintain the building and grounds and present them to the Chapter for approval.
Inform the Chapter of any repairs or services required for the proper maintenance of the building and grounds and secure the services of qualified individuals for repairs beyond the Membership's ability.
The chairperson shall have authorization to use the Chapter debit card for routine repairs and maintenance not to exceed $250.

Keep the Chapter informed as to the public and private agencies or organizations which offer temporary or permanent assistance to Veterans and their dependents, and
Assist needy Veterans, their dependents, or survivors who are confronted with emergency situations.
Investigate all claims for assistance, determine if an emergency exists, ascertain that all available resources have been exhausted including aid and assistance from public and private agencies or organizations and then, if In order, make appropriate recommendations to the Executive Committee.
Ensure personally identifiable information, including names and addresses, of anyone requesting emergency financial assistance, will not be publicly released to the Membership, but to the extent needed, will be made avallable to the Members of the Executive Committee In deciding whether to provide the requested assistance. The Executive Committee will ask all non-Executive Commtttee Members present during discussion, to leave the room (or terminate their link if the Executive Committee meeting ts being conducted via electronic means) to protect the personally identifiable information of any emergency relief applicant.

Promote outreach to women Veterans in Central Virginia to increase DAV membership and engagement.
Advocate for and support issues specific to women Veterans.
Organize educational events, resource fairs, and recognition programs that highlight women Veteran service
Actively build partnerships and coordinate with federal, state, local, and private organizations to connect women Veterans with vital resources and services.
Serve as a liaison to the Department Women Veterans Committee, regularly updating the Chapter on relevant initiatives, events, and achievements.

Receive written grievances submitted by Chapter members in accordance with the procedures outlined in these Bylaws
Conduct impartial Investigations, including the gathering of relevant facts, documents1 and witness statements,
Provide the member{s) Involved an opportunity to be heard.
Prepare findings and recommendations for resolution to be submitted to the Chapter Executive Committee.
Maintain confidentiality throughout the grievance process

Be responsible for reviewing and recommending updates to the Chapter's governing documents to ensure compliance with the National Constitution and Bylaws, Department Constitution and Bylaws, and applicable parliamentary authority.
Advise the Commander and Executive Committee on proposed amendments, draft changes as directed and prepare recommendations for consideration by the Chapter membership.
Assist ln ensuring that all Chapter operations and polices remain consistent with adopted Bylaws.
Meet as needed and report Its findings or recommendations to the Chapter

Develop and support activities that raise funds for Chapter programs and Increase visibility and engagement within the local community.
Propose and organize fundraising events, coordinate with local Veteran and non-profit groups and businesses, and Identify opportunities for collaboration that align with the DAV mission of service to Veterans.
Work to foster community support and educate the public about the needs of Veterans and the role of DAV.
Meet at least four times per year and present activity plans and financial results to the Chapter for review and approval.
