2020 Year In Review
2020 has certainly been an interesting year! Despite the challenges, Chapter 50 has carried on with the important work of Veteran service and advocacy. Here are some of the highlights:
· Chapter 50 supported events at McGuire such a New Year’s Day meal, cupcakes for Valentine’s Day and food for a 4th of July picnic.
· We hosted bingo at McGuire until mid-March and then continued to support VA Voluntary Services activities by donating coupon books that are given as prizes to the Veteran patients. We also continued to support the good work done by the Veterans Transitional Housing Program at McGuire.
· The Auxiliary put together goodie bags on several occasions. We also encouraged our supporters to send encouraging notes to the Veteran patients who were locked down due to COVID! We also made signs and stood outside McGuire to show our support for the staff.
· The Auxiliary achieved much deserved recognition, including awards for Membership, Americanism, Community Service and Legislation.
· Due to COVID restrictions, McGuire would not allow our Service Officers on site. But with requests for claims assistance continuing to come, our Chapter Service Officers stepped up and continued to assist Veterans virtually.
We want to take a moment to remember our fallen Comrades, including Barbara Givens, Lester Katzer, Benjamin Lancaster, Lloyd Warren and Vickie Vejnar. May they rest in eternal peace.
2020 marked the DAV 100th Anniversary and 2021 will mark Chapter 50’s 50th Anniversary! We look forward with optimism to a healthy and prosperous New Year!
